William Strutt invented a warm-air furnace in 1805. This system worked by heating cold air, which was released and traveled through ductwork. Around this same time, the French started using fire-tube hot air furnaces. The 1800s was the stage of inventors, and this carried on throughout the century.
When Was the Radiator Invented?
Furnace history was making significant headway. In 1855, Franz San Galli invented the radiator. This was a massive step toward the progress of the modern home heating system.
When Did the Electric Heater Come Into Play?
It wasn’t until 1883 that Thomas Edison invented the electric heater. This was a monumental progression. Edison’s invention changed the energy source of heating units from that point forward.
When Was the Bunsen Burner Created?
The Bunsen Burner was birthed in the year 1885. Dr. Robert Bunsen was a German scientist who created the concept of the open-flamed burner to use in his laboratory. His invention set the groundwork for the natural gas flame to be regulated.
When Was The Coal Furnace Established?
Dave Lennox created the first steel coal furnace in 1895. This made a massive impact on the HVAC industry, so much so that his name is widely recognized amongst many people today.
When Was the First Patented Central Heating System Introduced?
Alice Parker patented the first central heating system in the year 1919. Thanks to her contributions, we now enjoy the comforts of regulated temperature throughout our homes.
